Hartmut Kahlert

Hartmut Kahlert (born May 16, 1940 in Iglau ) is an Austrian physicist , emeritus university professor and former rector of Graz University of Technology .

Life

After the end of World War II , the German-speaking family had to leave Czechoslovakia and moved to Vienna . Kahlert attended elementary school and the Schottengymnasium there . He then took up studies in physics and mathematics at the University of Vienna , which he completed in 1965 with a doctorate in philosophy .

From 1966 to 1979 he was a university assistant at the University of Vienna, and in 1976 he completed his habilitation in experimental physics .

In 1979 he was appointed full professor for applied physics at the Graz University of Technology , where he became head of the Institute for Solid State Physics . In addition, from 1987 to 1991 he held the office of Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and was elected Rector of the Graz University of Technology for the period 1991–1993 . After the organizational changes in the UOG 1993 he had from 1996 the position of the Vice-Rector for Research Affairs , and was a 1998 to 2000 turn as rector operates.

Even after his retirement in 2008, he still held numerous positions in scientific institutions, such as the Christian Doppler Research Society and the Austrian Victor Franz Hess Society.

Hartmut Kahlert's main research interests include the physics of hot electrons , the physical properties of "synthetic metals ", especially conductive polymers as well as organic and inorganic semiconductors .

For years he was also the coordinator of the Graz University of Technology for the ASEA-UNINET in the service of international scientific cooperation .
