Hartmut Kautz

Hartmut Kautz (* in the 20th century) is a former German entrepreneur and automobile racing driver .

Career

Hartmut Kautz began motorsport in the early 1970s. In 1971 he drove a Porsche 911 at the hill climb from Trier to third place.

In 1972 he started as a team car rental H. Kautz with a Porsche 911 T in some non-championship races and in the Kassel-Calden race of the German Automobile Circuit Championship (DARM). In the race for the FIA European Trophy for GT vehicles at the Nürburgring, he finished fifth in the overall standings with a Porsche 911 S.

In 1973 he started for the Gerstmann Racing Team in two races of the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) in the 2nd division. At the first race in Monza, he and Albrecht Krebs finished fourth in a Ford Capri RS 2600 . In the second race at Mantorp Park , he and Waltraud Odenthal couldn't start because of an engine failure. He only started in one sports car world championship race in his driving career. Together with Albrecht Krebs and Werner Christmann he started in a Ford Capri RS 2600 in the T-class at the 1000 km race in Spa-Francorchamps in 1973 - retired early due to an accident. At the same time, he also competed in the German Racing Championship (DRM) that year. First he started in the first DRM run in the 1st division with a Ford Capri RS 2600 of the Gerstmann Racing Team . From the second run in Mainz-Finthen he drove in the 2nd division with a Ford Escort RS 1600 and became a driver for the Zakspeed team . He achieved his best race result with second place in the Eifel Cup race on the Nürburgring. At the end of the season he reached eighth place in the overall standings.

In his last year as a racing driver, Kautz drove for the Zakspeed team in three races in the 1st division of the ETCC 1974. In the first race in Monza, he and Hans Heyer drove a Ford Escort RS 1600 to fifth place overall and won the 1st division. In the second race on the Salzburgring, both improved to fourth place overall with a simultaneous class win and at the race in Vallelunga the driver trio Kautz, Heyer and Krebs drove to third place in the overall ranking and class win in the 1st division. In the DRM he only started with a Ford Escort RS 1600 in the Eifel race on the Nürburgring, which he could not finish because of engine damage.

Hartmut Kautz ended his motorsport career in the middle of the 1974 season. In 1978 he founded a sports center in Cologne with his wife. This has been run by his son since 2004.
