The Haru Reisen GmbH was a traditional, privately held, family-owned bus company in Berlin-Spandau .

history

In May 1945 the company was founded as Baru by Karl Barny and Hans Rudek (born August 17, 1910 in Keltsch , † February 12, 1999 in Berlin ) ; an initial word from both surnames of the company founders. As early as August 1, 1945, one of the first scheduled services in Berlin after the war was set up on the route from Rathaus Spandau to Staaken . The fare at that time was 30 pfennigs. On the first long-distance bus line from Berlin, Baru started operating in 1947. This interzone line ran from Berlin to Hanover and was served daily until the end of October 2016. In 1950 the company was expanded to include a travel agency .

In 1951 Hans Rudek and Karl Barny separated. The company was subsequently renamed Haru . A few years later, Hans Rudek and his company took part in the founding of the Flug-Union Berlin (first air travel company in West Berlin ) and the long-distance network Berlin Linien Bus . As the first tour operator in Berlin, Haru offered rail travel with special couchette cars to Austria , and Haru was also involved in car transport in Berlin from the start.

In 1968 the company was converted to the legal form of a KG . In 1983 Haru took over the Berliner Bärenrundfahrt GmbH (BBS) and moved into the depot in the district of Klosterfelde , which was used until recently . In the same year the company founder handed over the management of the company to his sons and withdrew from the management. In 1985 the company was converted to Haru Reisen OHG . Hans Rudek regularly sat behind the wheel of his coaches until he was 65. In 2017 the company was converted into a GmbH, and operations ceased in 2018. The liquidation took place on April 5, 2019. The depot is used today by the Schröder Reisen company.

Public transport Berlin

After the nationalization and thus monopoly of public transport in Berlin in the hands of the BVG , no public transport was operated by private providers in Berlin for many decades. When the BVG subcontracted some lines in 1992 , Haru also got back into public transport. This also included the route from Rathaus Spandau to Staaken , which was driven in 1949 , which was then extended to the Havelpark Dallgow shopping center and converted into a Metrobus line.

Two lines were initially operated and two more were added later. Haru thus served the lines M32, 115, 135 and 236 and drove SEV as needed . While the BVG was still purchasing buses in the previous year that did not meet the emissions standards that came into force in October 2005, which triggered severe criticism, Haru switched to natural gas drive in June 2005 . As of March 29, 2008, as part of the new BVG transport contract, Haru had to withdraw from all lines due to an agreement between the BVG and the ver.di union , which stipulated a significant reduction in the number of subcontractors. Since then, BVG has once again served the Spandau – Staaken route with its own buses.

In addition to the Spandau bus routes, the BER1 express bus route, a connection from Steglitz Town Hall to Berlin Brandenburg Airport , was also planned. This surcharge line would have been integrated into the VBB . For this purpose, several employees were hired and three buses were purchased, which were converted for use in public transport. Due to the surprising postponement of the airport opening, the start of the line had to be postponed, which resulted in massive losses. The A5 line operated by Haru to Karls Erlebnis-Dorf in Elstal and the Designer Outlet Center Wustermark is now operated by BEX . The Heerstraße / Pichelsdorfer Straße stop used for this purpose , which was originally opened for long-distance bus traffic but was only used for a few timetable periods, was also transferred to BEX.

Long-distance bus

Haru bus on the way to Hamburg

Haru operated several long-distance bus routes within the BerlinLinienBus -verbund (BLB) . This happened z. Sometimes alone, but also in cooperation with other members. Among other things, together with Autokraft, the express service was operated several times a day via the autobahn to Hamburg , which in 2011 made up more than a third of the total operating output of the BLB.

The 35% stake in the company was sold to BEX in 2015 , but long-distance bus services continued as a subcontractor. When BerlinLinienBus ceased operations on October 31, 2016, Haru withdrew from long-distance bus travel.

BBS - Berlin Bear City Tour

BBS was once the largest provider of sightseeing tours in Berlin. The company was founded in 1946. In 1983 it was taken over by Haru, whose 100% subsidiary BBS was until the end. After reunification in 1990, the business was expanded to Potsdam . In addition, BBS was active in the field of incentive trips and in the congress event business.

Other business areas

Haru also offered individual trips. The last buses were sold to Busverkehr Berlin and are still in the traditional Haru color scheme as of September 2018. The company also had a travel agency at the company's headquarters.

The shares in Flug-Union Berlin , now renamed Berliner Flug Ring , were sold to Germania .

Commitment and awards

The company has been involved in environmental protection for several years. For example, solar collectors were installed on part of the workshop roof, water is treated in the washing system, the rainwater in the depot is collected and fed back into the natural cycle. In 2007 Haru was awarded the Climate Protection Partner for the consistent use of natural gas buses .

The company's bus drivers have received several awards for accident-free driving as part of the initiative of the Federation of German Omnibus Companies (BDO).
