The Hasenmatt is a 1444  m above sea level. M. high mountain peak in the Swiss Jura . It is located around 8 km northwest of the city of Solothurn on the municipality of Selzach and forms the highest elevation in the canton of Solothurn .

The Hasenmatt is part of the white stone chain , the southernmost Jura chain steeply against the Swiss plateau slopes down. In the north, the Hasenmatt is bounded by the valley of the Bantlibach , which drains via Gänsbrunnen to the Birs . To the west the ridge continues in the Stallflue ( 1409  m above sea level ) and the Wandflue ( 1399  m above sea level ), to the east in the Gitziflue ( 1325  m above sea level ) and the Geissflue .

geology

In structural and geological terms, the Hasenmatt forms an anticline of the Jura folds . The apex area of this anticline was broken open at weak points by erosion and a large part was removed. As a result, the underlying, softer marl of the Effinger strata and partly the main roe stone from the middle Jurassic period ( Dogger ) came to light. The Hasenmatt forms the southern leg of the anticline and is made up of competent layers of rock from the Sequan and Kimmeridge limestone (upper Malm ).
