Brother Klaus Chapel

The village of Hatzenreuth, which is incorporated into Waldsassen in the Tirschenreuth district , Upper Palatinate in Bavaria ( Germany ), is not far from the German-Czech border. Worth seeing in the village are some beautiful half-timbered buildings, which are built in the so-called Egerland style .

The center of the village is the Brother Klaus Chapel, built in 1963, which was intended to commemorate the men who died in the war and as a symbolic replacement for the pilgrimage churches in Wies and Maria Loreto in the former Egerland , which were then no longer accessible . After the prelate Martin Rohrmeier (1906–1990) had taken over the parish Waldsassen in December 1958, he tried to build the Hatzenreuther chapel. In spring 1960 he received approval from the episcopal ordinariate in Regensburg and the Querenbach community. The construction plans could be submitted to the authorities the following year.

history

The village was first mentioned in 1347. From the end of the 14th century until well into the 19th century it was in the territory of the Frais , a condominium of the Kingdom of Bavaria and the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy or their legal successors.

The population is currently around 80. In 1985 a partnership was established with Thurston, Nebraska , USA . In 1993 a remarkable carriage house was rebuilt just a few meters from its original location. The so-called Veith'n-Schupf'm was a building in which tools for harvesting and processing flax were stored. Its origin goes back to the year 1776.

In 2000, Hatzenreuth achieved first place in the district decision of the competition Our village should be more beautiful / Our village has the future .
