Kondrau

History and location

It is said that the name is derived from the Slavic word Kondrawa , which means horse pasture . But this has not been proven.

The small town was known throughout Bavaria for the Kondrau mineral and healing fountain, which Ludwig III. determined by Bavaria in 1910 as purveyor to the royal Bavarian court.

The Kondrauer springs have been known since the 13th century. At that time the Cistercian monastery Waldsassen took over the springs from the count's possession. The Kondrauer mineral water was first delivered in clay jugs to Elector Ferdinand in Munich in 1668 . Today the well is privately owned.

Kondrau is about 500  m above sea level. NN . The federal road 299 runs through the village . To the south of it there are houses that were mostly built after the Second World War, when mainly Sudeten Germans settled there. Farms are mainly to be found in the northern half of the village.

On January 1, 1972, the Kondrau community was dissolved. Their area was divided up and added to the communities of Konnersreuth and Waldsassen. The places Glasmühle , Glaswies , Groppenheim , Kondrau, Netzstahl , Sauerbrunn and Wolfsbühl came to Waldsassen, the places Brandmühle , Dollermühle , Dornhof , Geierhut , Grün , Grünmühle , Höflas , Lippertsmühle , Neubau , Neuhof and Siegelmühle came to Konnersreuth.
