The Hebbel-Gesellschaft eV is a literary association in the legal form of a registered association with its headquarters in Wesselburen ( Dithmarschen district ). The society is named after the playwright and poet Friedrich Hebbel (1813–1863), who was born in Wesselburen .

history

Due to an initiative of the high school rector Detlef Cölln (1876–1961), on December 5, 1925, a Hebbel community was founded under private law . Cölln was a member of the committee for the Hebbel Museum , which was founded in 1911. The main goal of the merger was to promote the regional awareness of the playwright Hebbel in the province of Schleswig-Holstein . The public call to join the Hebbel community therefore established a connection to North German authors, such as Theodor Storm , Klaus Groth and Detlev von Liliencron . On July 3, 1926, the association was founded, which kept the name municipality until 1941. Ernst Kracht , district administrator of the Norderdithmarschen district, took the chair .

After the end of the Second World War , the respective general assembly elected the following people as chairman of the Hebbel Society:
Klaus Ziegler (1951–1952), Gerhard Fricke (1952–1954), Wolfgang Liepe (1954–1959), Erich Trunz (1959–1962) , Heinz Stolte (1962–1983), Otfrid Ehrismann (1983–1985), Dieter Lohmeier (1985–1986), Günter Häntzschel (1990–1999) and Monika Ritzer (1999–2014).

In 2014, Martin M. Langner ( University of Kraków ) was elected chairman of the Hebbel Society. Hargen Thomsen has been its secretary since 2004.
