Hedwig Hornburg (born February 16, 1885 in Braunschweig ; † May 31, 1975 there ) was a German painter and teacher .

Hornburg was trained at the Städtische Gewerbeschule in Braunschweig with Johannes Leitzen and Hans Herse before she began studying in Magdeburg , which she completed in 1910 as a drawing teacher. She then received a scholarship from the Braunschweiger Kunstgewerbe-Verein. She attended a painting course from Hans Baluschek at the Association of Berlin Women Artists .

From 1912 to 1947 she worked as a painting and drawing teacher at the Braunschweiger Handwerker- und Kunstgewerbeschule, which later became the University of Fine Arts .

Hornburg mainly painted in watercolor . Their motifs came from the world of construction as well as industry and technology. Before the Second World War , she documented city views of Braunschweig and afterwards the ruins. During the Nazi era she exhibited ten watercolors at the Braunschweig art exhibition in 1943. Later she also devoted herself intensively to maritime motifs. But she also created linocuts or sculptures such as B. Figures for playgrounds or the iron band sculpture at the main entrance of the New High School (1958). Numerous works can be found in the Braunschweig Municipal Museum .
