Hot Summer in Kabul ( Russian Жаркое лето в Кабуле ) is a Soviet - Afghan war drama directed by Ali Khamraev and Wali Latifi from 1983. The film deals with the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan from a Soviet perspective. It produced Uzbek film , Afghan film and Mosfilm .

The Soviet surgeon and professor Fyodorov traveled to Kabul in 1982 , a few years after the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan, to give lectures there and to work in a military hospital. He witnessed first hand brutal clashes between Soviet and Afghan government troops with “ counter-revolutionary ” forces and the mujahideen . He cares for the wounded on both sides and asks them about their experiences and personal circumstances. Fyodorov gets an idea of the situation in the country and the people.

Hot Summer in Kabul premiered in September 1983 and was later broadcast in the GDR . The lexicon of international films described the film as “political object lesson in the guise of an action film”, while other reviews attested it to be “free from all theoretical know-it-alls and quick judgments”.
