The Heiligenstein is a ridge and foothills of the Manhartsberg in Zöbing (municipality of Langenlois) in the Kamptal in Lower Austria . Its height is 360 m above sea level. A. At its foot in the southwest the Kamp flows . The Heiligenstein is the most important vineyard in the Kamptal wine-growing region .
The open southern slope is home to a strongly Pannonian flora. Remarkable and rare species such as large umbel ( Orlaya grandiflora ), yellow leek ( Allium flavum ), silky cheek clover ( Dorycnium germanicum ) and field felt herb ( Filago arvensis ) grow on the dry grassland and the edges of the vineyards .
The Heiligenstein was mentioned as Hellenstein ( Höllenstein ) as early as 1240 . Most of the ridge is forested. The slopes falling into the Kamptal have been used for viticulture since the Middle Ages. The Heiligenstein is considered one of the best Riesling locations in Europe. Renowned wineries such as Bründlmayer or Schloss Gobelsburg manage vineyards on the Heiligenstein.
The Kamptalwarte observation tower, built in 1897, is located on the Heiligenstein .
