The Heimbacher Mühle , also called Heimbachmühle or earlier Untermühle , is a watermill near Mömbris in the Aschaffenburg district in Bavaria .

geography

The Heimbacher Mühle is located in the middle Kahlgrund in the valley of the Reichenbach below the Glasberg (334 m) on the state road 2309 . It consists of a former flour mill and oil mill . In the immediate vicinity, more residential buildings have been built, with which it forms the hamlet of Heimbacher Mühle . To the north is the village of Heimbach with the Heimbacher Hof , to the north-west is Rothengrund . At the mill, the Hohlenbach, which rises near Hohl, flows towards the Reichenbach .

The Reichenbach, formerly known as Heimbach, drove the water wheels and gave the mill its name. Below the Reichenbach bridge branches off the Mühlbach , which is now routed through a pipe over the Hohlenbach and feeds the mill. In the past, driving water was also taken from the Hohlenbach. Until 2011 the Degen-Weg led past the mill . Today there is a restaurant in the Heimbacher Mühle .

history

The Heimbacher Mühle was built around 1600. In 1655, Lorentz Völker from the "Mühle an der Heimbach" was mentioned in the cellar invoice of the Aschaffenburg Abbey . In 1712 this oil mill was registered as the Völkersmühle . In 1752 the mill was described as ruined and dilapidated. In 1837 Johann Adam Gries operated what was then known as the lower mill with one grinding gear for grain and one for oil. During his stays in the Spessart, King Ludwig I of Bavaria passed the mill and tasted buttermilk and bread.

In 1941 the flour mill was shut down. In 1945, the miller's family opened the restaurant in the oil mill building. The mill wheel then supplied the company with electricity . In 1948 the oil mill was modernized by replacing the hammer mechanism with a high pressure press. In 1971 the oil mill was shut down. The restaurant is still a popular destination today. The two overshot water wheels were renewed in 1992 and are still preserved today.
