Secret Excursions is a 1980 Swedish film.
The film is based on the 1976 novel Die Insel der Kinder (Barnens ö) by PC Jersild .
action
Unbeknownst to his mother, 11-year-old Reine does not spend the summer at the holiday camp, but alone in the urban jungle of Stockholm. With a skateboard and tape recorder, to which he confides his fear of growing up, he wanders through the city, where he becomes involved in numerous encounters with adults.
The film deals with the transition from childhood to the adult world in a very vivid way.
Reviews
“[T] he fears [...], the rebelliousness of the pure and the experiences with his body and his feelings are convincingly presented. A serious film that will probably not have an easy time of it next to the many superficial teen films. "
Awards
The film won the Swedish Guldbagge Award in 1981 in the categories of “Best Film”, “Best Male Actor”, and “Best Director”.
The film also ran in the competition at the Berlinale 1981.
