Heiner Rank

Heiner Rank , pseudonym AG Petermann (born December 11, 1931 in Nowawes ; † November 17, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German author of crime literature and science fiction .

Life

The trained industrial clerk worked as a tractor driver, was assistant director and dramaturgy at the Landestheater Parchim and guest director at the Volkstheater Halberstadt . From 1955 he was a freelance writer and lived in Kleinmachnow . In 1963/64 he was in prison (Oelsnitz prison camp) because he had spoken about the possibility of leaving the GDR.

He has published numerous detective novels, some under a pseudonym, written screenplays for television and wrote a highly acclaimed science fiction novel, The Powerlessness of the Almighty . Until 1988 he headed the Utopian Literature Working Group at the GDR Writers' Association (as successor to Günther Krupkat and predecessor of Klaus Frühauf ). Some of Rank's books have been translated into Russian, Lithuanian, Polish, Hungarian, and Czech.
