Heino Messerschmidt

Heino Hartwig Messerschmidt , according to the birth register of Heinz Hartwig Messerschmidt , (born December 10, 1915 in Braunschweig , † June 22, 1990 in Gokels , Holstein) was a German animal breeder and administrative farmer.

Life

Messerschmidt grew up in Hanover , first studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover , then agriculture at the University for Home and Foreign Settlement Witzenhausen and at the University of Göttingen with a stay abroad in Cameroon . Further guest semesters followed in Uppsala (Sweden), Cambridge (UK, with Sir John Hammond) and in Pretoria (South African Union, SAU). At the time of the outbreak of the Second World War , Messerschmidt was in South Africa. When trying to return to Germany, he was detained in Great Britain and brought to Australia, where he had to live in an internment camp until 1947. During this time he perfected his zootechnical knowledge through further studies.

When he returned to Germany, he took up work as a milk controller in the regions of North Friesland and Central Holstein. In 1948 he was employed by the Red Holstein Association of Schleswig-Holstein (cattle; managing director: Rudolf-Detlef Ratjen). In 1950 Robert Winnigstedt, the then managing director of the Association of German Animal Breeders (ADT), brought him to Bonn as an employee.

In the following 30 years, Messerschmidt took on a variety of tasks:

  • Participation in the congress of the European Association for Animal Production ( EVT ) in 1952 in Copenhagen (Denmark), active participation in the committees of the EVT, which was then based in Paris
  • 1952 spent a few months in Sweden with a teaching position at Uppsala University
  • 1953/57 and 1965/66 the management of the German Society for Zuchtungskunde (DGfZ) in Bonn
  • Longstanding member of the main committee of the DGfZ in Bonn
  • 1954 two months stay in Yugoslavia as well as consultations with the “British Cattle Breeders Club” in Great Britain
  • 1955 stays in Kenya and South Africa, 1956 in North and West Africa
  • 1957/68 foundation and management of the international office of Deutsche Tierzucht e. V. in Bonn. Here the exports and imports of breeding cattle from the individual regions were centrally bundled and prepared. The implementation of the business was incumbent on IMEX Deutsche Zucht- und Nutzvieh Im- und Exportgesellschaft mbH in Munich. This worked from 1949, Messerschmidt was a member of the supervisory board
  • 1962 three months stay in Greece on behalf of the World Bank
  • 1966 Participation in the creation of a breeding program for the "Hunters Improvement Society" (association of hunting horse breeders) in Great Britain
  • 1968/80 (in the succession of Robert Winnigstedt) full-time management of ADT and the Association of German Cattle Breeders (ADR) in Bonn
  • 1969 stay in New Zealand, 1974 in Japan and Australia
  • Member of the Standing Committee of the International Congress on Breeding and Insemination of Domestic Animals and Secretary General of the 1972 Congress in Munich
  • Editor of the ADT magazine "Der Tierzüchter"
  • Co-editor of the magazine "Reproduction in Domestic Animals - Zuchthygiene"
  • Advising the agricultural administration of the Federal Republic of Germany on questions of animal breeding and animal production
  • Multiple consultant for the preparation of animal breeding legislation in Europe, plus many contacts to Great Britain, France, the Netherlands and other states of the European Economic Community (EEC),
  • Foreign commitments in India and Thailand for German development aid and the World Bank; further stays in Australia, China, Japan
  • Longstanding professional contact with the former ambassador of the Soviet Union in the FRG Falin
  • Lively lectures. Abroad, he spoke Swedish, English, French and Italian as well as Afrikaans (the official language for South Africa)
