The Heinrich Hertz European College of the Federal City of Bonn (HHEK; until 2010 Heinrich Hertz Vocational College of the City of Bonn - HHB) is a vocational college with a vocational high school in Bonn with a focus on crafts .

The educational institution was named after the German physicist Heinrich Rudolph Hertz , who is considered to be the discoverer of electromagnetic waves .

history

1908–1913
(now collegiate school)
1913–1967
(now Pestalozzi School)

The Heinrich-Hertz-Europakolleg was originally founded on April 25, 1908 as a compulsory advanced training school for craftsmen and merchants in today's Stiftsschule ( Theaterstraße 60 ; listed ). In 1911 the commercial (today's HHEK) and the commercial school (today's Ludwig-Erhard-Berufskolleg ) were separated. Until 1912, all vocational schools in Germany were called advanced training schools .

In 1913 the first vocational school building in Prussia , built by the city architect Rudolf Schultze , was moved into on Budapester Strasse , which is now known as the Pestalozzi School and is also a listed building.

The current building at Herseler Straße 1-5 in Graurheindorf was occupied by the college in 1967. It was built between 1964 and 1966 by the architect Joachim Hammerstein from the municipal building department as a school center in Rheindorf-Süd . Heinrich Raderschall planned the gardening work . Until the completion of the school building in 1981, parts of the Integrated Comprehensive School Bonn-Beuel, founded in 1978, were housed on the school premises.

In 1990 the FNT (Association for the Promotion of New Technologies in Vocational Training eV) was founded at the suggestion of the trade. At the end of the 1990s, the vocational college was introduced at vocational schools in North Rhine-Westphalia . In this context, the school was named Heinrich Hertz Vocational College of the City of Bonn (HHB).

In 2003, a Cisco Academy was founded at the vocational college and, as a result, several teachers were trained as Cisco CCNA trainers as well as some for the PC hardware basic course IT essentials. In February 2007, a cooperation agreement in the field of computer science was concluded with the University of Applied Sciences Bonn-Rhein-Sieg on the Sankt Augustin campus .

In 2008, the year of its 100th anniversary, the school had around 3,300 students. After the school ministry certified the institution as the first technically-oriented vocational college in the Rhineland as a European school, the municipal school committee approved the renaming of the federal city of Bonn to Heinrich-Hertz-Europakolleg - vocational college with vocational high school .

The polluted, single-storey workshop building "Building A" on the school premises was demolished in 2017 in favor of a planned barrier-free new building with eight classrooms, three differentiation rooms, a teaching material room, a painting area for training painters and varnishers and a cafeteria with around 300 places and ancillary rooms planned for the end of 2018. The Siegen branch of kplan AG has been commissioned to plan the property.

"Building A" was ceremoniously opened on Monday, September 30, 2019 by the Lord Mayor of Bonn, Mr. Ashok Sridharan.
