The Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium ( HSG for short ) in Fürth is a state-run humanistic , linguistic and musical high school.
history
The school was founded in 1896 as the first grammar school in Fürth with a high school diploma. The school was given the name Heinrich-Schliemann -Gymnasium in the mid-sixties, when today's Helene-Lange-Gymnasium and the Hardenberg-Gymnasium were raised from an upper secondary school to a grammar school and a distinction between the three schools became necessary. At first it was a purely humanistic grammar school , until a new language branch with English as the first foreign language was introduced in the 1973/74 school year ( French followed later ). Since the 2009/2010 school year, the grammar school has also offered a musical branch .
In addition, the grammar school offers subjects from the natural sciences, technology and social sciences. Well-known students at Heinrich Schliemann Gymnasium were the Nazi Gauleiter of Danzig , Albert Forster , who left school after secondary school, and the NSDAP politician, Commander in Chief of the German Air Force in World War II and Hitler confidante Hermann Göring ; later it is the writer Ewald Arenz , the jazz musician Thilo Wolf , the actress Claudia Lüftenegger , the writer Sigrun Arenz and the actor and writer Hellwig Arenz.
The Greek city of Xylokastro on the Peloponnese became Fürth's new twin city in the summer of 2006 due to its good relationships with the grammar school. The former headmaster Herbert Meyerhöfer and the classical philologist Günther Hoffmann, who played a decisive role in the friendship between the two cities, were also made honorary citizens of Xylokastro on the occasion of the establishment of this twinning.
foreign languages
In the fifth grade, students have the choice between English and Latin as their first foreign language. In the G8 class (since 2003/2004), the second language follows in the sixth grade. This consists of the foreign language that was not chosen in the fifth grade, i.e. H. Those who started their high school career with English automatically learn Latin from the sixth grade and vice versa. The third foreign language follows in the eighth grade. You can choose between ancient Greek and French . In the previous nine-year high school, which ended in the 2010/2011 school year, the second and third foreign languages each began a year later.
Awards
In 1999, the art department at Heinrich Schliemann Gymnasium took part in the international Borromini project at the Albertina in Vienna , where it won first prize with its “Borromini goes Bilbao ” contribution . The second project "The Return of the Thistle" also won several prizes and in November 2003 the theater group of the Heinrich-Schliemann-Gymnasium received one of the city's cultural promotion awards for their project "The Nights of Kaspar Hauser ", through which the school became known nationwide Fuerth.
