Heinrich Albert Zachariä (born November 20, 1806 in Herbsleben , † April 29, 1875 in Cannstatt near Stuttgart ) was a German lawyer and politician.

Life

Zacharias studied from 1825 to 1829 at the University of Goettingen law . After receiving his doctorate , he worked as a private lecturer , and from 1835 as a professor at Göttingen University.

Zachariä gained fame as the author of numerous expert reports, magazine articles and legal works. He was co-editor of the Archives for Criminal Law and the Critical Journal for Foreign Legislation and Jurisprudence .

In the course of the March Revolution in 1848 , Zachariä took part in the pre-parliament and became a delegate in the Committee of Seventeen , which was supposed to prepare work on the Imperial Constitution, and in the Committee of Fifties . From May 18, 1848 to May 26, 1849 he was a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly for Göttingen . There he was a member of the Nürnberger Hof parliamentary group and was a member of several committees, including the Committee on International Law and the Imperial Deputation . After the end of the National Assembly, he took part in the Gotha post-parliament in June 1849 .

In 1854 Georg V refused to confirm the election of Zachariäs as prorector of the University of Göttingen, ten years later he was able to take up this post.

In 1867 Zachariä became a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation , and from 1868 until his death he was a member of the Prussian state parliament .

He was married to Amalie Zachariae; his son Viktor Zachariae (1837–1900) was a doctor and Lord Mayor of Wildemann .

The city of Göttingen honored him with the dedication of the Heinrich-Albert-Zachariä-Bogen.
