Heinrich Christian Baader (born January 30, 1847 in Deidesheim , Rhineland-Palatinate , † July 29, 1928 in Timișoara , Kingdom of Romania ) was a German engineer , director of the Timișoara tram company (1867-1918), city councilor and senator .

Live and act

Heinrich Baader was born in Deidesheim in Palatinate in 1847 as the son of Nikolaus Baader and Theresia Zimmermann. In 1867 he came as a young engineer from Ofen to what was then Temesvár, where he was commissioned to build the town's horse-drawn tram , which opened in 1869 . He then acted as director of the transport company until 1918, which means that he was later also the operations manager of the electric tram introduced in 1899 . In 1873, Baader was also appointed to the city council and as such sponsored the technical development of Temesvár until 1918.

Baader directed the construction of the Oberrealschule , the Franz Joseph Theater , the Hunyadi Bridge , the inner-city Roman Catholic parish church , the inner-city municipal school and the Fabriker girls' school.

After going on a few study trips, Baader made a decisive contribution to the introduction of the electrification of the city and the tram. It is thanks to his tenacity and persuasiveness that the tram company finally gave in in 1899 and introduced the electric tram. Baader was also the one who in 1903 handled the municipalization of the electric tram for 2.6 million crowns to the satisfaction of everyone.

In his honor the city created the "Baader Foundation" in 1909 with 20,000 crowns for a technology grant.
