Heinrich Freyer

Heinrich Freyer (born July 7, 1802 in Idria , † August 21, 1866 in Laibach ) was an Austrian naturalist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Freyer ".

Life

Freyer completed a pharmaceutical training in Ljubljana and Vienna . From 1829 to 1832 he worked as a pharmacist . In 1832 he was appointed curator of the recently founded Krainische Landesmuseum in Ljubljana . From 1853 Freyer worked as a curator at the Zoological-Botanical Museum in Trieste . He kept coming to Vienna to train.

In 1848 Freyer arranged for the Carinthian State Museum to be set up for the first time , even before Friedrich Simony was appointed curator. Freyer dealt with zoology, palaeontology, botany, geography and folklore in Carniola .

Freyer was a corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences in Vienna .

Honors

The plant genus Freyera Rchb is named after Freyer . from the umbelliferae family (Apiaceae).
