Heinrich II. Von Hoya († January 25, 1290 ), called Heinrich with the ax , was ruling Count of Hoya from 1235 to 1290 .

Live and act

As the son of Heinrich I von Hoya and Richenza von Wölpe , Heinrich II took control of the county of Hoya after the death of his father in 1235 . He got his nickname in contemporary chronicles because he is said to have acted with particular violence and brutality in armed conflicts. Above all, he took action against the bishops of Minden by expanding the territory of his county to the south. With the construction of castles in Liebenau and Steyerberg he secured the new border against Minden and consolidated his power.

Heinrich was buried in the Loccum monastery.

progeny

Heinrich is said to have had 25 legitimate children with Jutta von Ravensberg, daughter of Ludwig von Ravensberg , of whom at least 8 reached adulthood:
