Heinrich Johann Paucker

Johann Heinrich Paucker (born August 8 . Jul / 19th August  1759 greg. In Järva-Jaani , † April 12 jul. / 24. April  1819 greg. In Simuna , Governorate of Estonia ) was an Estonian Evangelical pastor .

Life and theology

Heinrich Johann Paucker was born as the son of pastor Johann Christoph Paucker (1736–1776) and his wife Christina Helena Paucker, nee. Sperbach, (1732–1779) born. The father had studied at the Friedrichs University in Halle and then worked in Estonia .

Heinrich Johann Paucker received his education from 1766 to 1776 at the renowned Tallinn Gymnasium . He studied Protestant theology at the University of Leipzig in 1776/77 and from 1777 to 1779 at the University of Kiel . He then worked as a tutor in Purila (now the rural municipality of Rapla ). 1782/83 he was a teacher at the cathedral school in the Estonian capital Tallinn .

In November 1783 Paucker was ordained in Tallinn Cathedral . From 1783 to 1785 he was the successor of the estophile Joachim Gottlieb Schwabe as pastor of the parish of Nissi , before he was pastor of the parish of Simuna from 1785 until his death . In 1812 he turned down the offer to become provost .

Private life

Paucker was married three times: first with Hedwig Eleonore Christine Paucker, b. Haller, (1766-1791). The couple had three children, including the mathematician and astronomer Magnus Georg Paucker (1787–1855). After her early death, Paucker married Anna Ulrika Paucker, b. Schnabel, (1773-1810). With her he had ten children, including the two clergymen Heinrich Wilhelm Christoph Paucker (1797–1833) and Hugo Richard Paucker (1807–1871) as well as the lawyer and historian Julius von Paucker (1798–1856). Paucker's third wife was Caroline von Friederici (1781–1867). She bore him five more children. Heinrich Johann Paucker was a great-grandfather of the pastor and Protestant martyr Walther Paucker (1878-1919).
