Heinrich (Henrique) Johannpötter OFM (born June 23, 1933 in Warendorf - Milte ; † July 19, 2011 in São Luís , Maranhão , Brazil ) was a German religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Bacabal (northeast Brazil).

Life

Johannpötter joined in 1955 the Congregation of the Franciscan in and put on 20 April 1959, the profession from. After being ordained a priest on July 26, 1961 by Archbishop Lorenz Jaeger in Paderborn Cathedral , he worked in the mission in Maranhão. In addition to various tasks in the provincial chapter , he was active in parish pastoral care in São Luís, Vitorino Freire, Lago da Pedra, Teresina and Piripiri. From 1978 to 1984 he was vicar general of the Bacabal diocese .

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop in the diocese of Bacabal on December 7, 1988 . The episcopal ordination received his his predecessor Paschasius Hermann Rettler OFM on January 20, 1989; Co- consecrators were Miguel Fenelon Câmara Filho , Archbishop of Teresina , and Paulo Eduardo Andrade Ponte , Archbishop of São Luís do Maranhão . With the resignation of Bishop Rettler on December 2 of the same year, he succeeded him as Bishop of Bacabal.

On April 10, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his health-related resignation. He died of a stroke in São Domingos Hospital in São Luís, Maranhão; he was buried in the Franciscan cemetery in Bacabal .
