Heinrich Knaust

Heinrich Knaust, also: Knaustinus, Knustinus, Knust, Cnaustinua, Cnustinus; (Born August 31, 1520 in Hamburg ; † November 7, 1580 in Erfurt ) was a German pedagogue , playwright , neo-Latin poet and Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Heinrich Knaust was born the son of a goldsmith. In 1537 he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg and came to Kölln in 1540 . Here he became the head of the Latin School and had the Epiphany he wrote there on January 6, 1541. From 1543 he worked as rector in Stendal and married there. He converted to the Catholic faith and became a canon in Erfurt. Knaust made a name for himself as a playwright. In keeping with the times, his dramas deal with biblical themes. He also wrote Latin poems and treatises of religious content.
