Heinrich Meier (historian)

Heinrich Meier (born September 20, 1842 in Braunschweig ; † June 12, 1923 there ) was a German professional officer and local historian who devoted himself in particular to the history of the city of Braunschweig .

Life

Heinrich Meier was a son of the Brunswick city councilor Ernst Meier (1790–1874) and his wife Luise (1812–1878), born. Lüderßen. His brother was the lawyer Ernst von Meier . After finishing school at Martino-Katharineum , Meier joined the Prussian Army in 1859 as an officer candidate . He ended his military career as commander of the foot artillery regiment “von Dieskau” (Silesian) No. 6 in Neisse .

At the beginning of 1890 Meier returned with the rank of Colonel a. D. returned to Braunschweig and from then on devoted himself to researching Braunschweig's history. As a result, he published numerous works on urban history topics.
