Theodor Müller (geographer)
Theodor Müller (born April 22, 1892 in Braunschweig ; † May 27, 1968 there ) was a German geographer , teacher and local researcher .
Life
Müller's father came from Hasselfelde in the Harz Mountains and owned a stone and book printing company in Braunschweig . His mother was of Huguenot origin and came from Neu-Isenburg . After finishing school he attended the teachers' college.
At the First World War he took part as lieutenant d. R. of the Braunschweig Infantry Regiment No. 92 . After his return, Müller worked as a primary and secondary school teacher, first in Thedinghausen , then in Schöningen and, from 1931, finally in Braunschweig. Müller studied geology, geography and history at the Technical University of Braunschweig and received his doctorate with the thesis “The marine Paleocene and Eocene in Northern Germany and Scandinavia”. As early as 1928 he had the “Amt Thedinghausen. Its history and development ”.
Müller took part in the Second World War. After the end of the war he worked for several years as a geographer for the Institute for Regional Studies of the Federal Research Center for Regional Studies and Regional Planning . In 1949 he returned to Braunschweig as a middle school teacher. In 1957 he was retired.
After the re-establishment of the Braunschweigisches Geschichtsverein in 1949, of which Müller was a founding member, he became its board member and in 1962 its honorary member . In 1951 he was accepted as a member of the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony.
The Ostfälische Landeskunde , published in 1952, is considered to be Müller's most important work , in which for the first time the independence and regional delimitation of Ostfalen was presented as a cultural-geographical unit.
