Heinrich Ruppel

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Ruppel (born November 8, 1886 in Neukirchen , † November 17, 1974 in Ziegenhain ) was a German writer . The Hessian poet wrote narratives , purrs and slobs .

Life

Ruppel came from a small farmer's home. After completing elementary school in Neukirchen, he attended the preparatory institute in Herborn from 1901 and then the teachers' seminar in Dillenburg and then in 1907 became a teacher in the elementary school in Haunetal - Wetzlos . In 1911 he became a preparation teacher in Homberg (Efze) , and in 1912 he took up a position as a teacher for the deaf and dumb in Homberg. In the early stages of the First World War in 1914, he served as a soldier in Poland and Belgium, but was then retired because of his asthma.

Ruppel wrote poems early on; as a soldier he also began to write prose. His first volume of ballads , Aus Herz und Heimat , was published in 1914. In his free time, Ruppel wrote amateur plays, folklore treatises, stories from the rural and craft milieu and also from the world of deaf people. Sometimes he wrote in the Hessian dialect . In the 1920s, Ruppel published the monthly Heimat Schollen in Melsungen together with Johann Heinrich Schwalm .

In 1937 Ruppel was suspended or retired by the National Socialist government of the Gau Kurhessen . In the next few years he privately taught the “ half-Jewish ” deaf Esther Abraham with permission . In November 1938 he became a civil servant on revocation and was then until 1947 teacher and director of the "Homberg home school for orphans and children in welfare education", a sign language school in Homberg. Ruppel's role and position on National Socialism is still unclear. In the Heimatgruß from Chattengau , published by the district leadership of the NSDAP Fritzlar-Homberg , he wrote articles for the soldiers at the front. According to Dreytza and Fäcke (2002), Ruppel criticized the “Führer” and tried in vain to prevent the deportation of children from the home school to Hadamar .

In September 1945, Ruppel was appointed school councilor for the Fritzlar-Homberg district by the American military government . He opened the district's schools. But then he resigned because he did not consider an office bestowed by the "enemy" to be very honorable. He then worked as a deaf-mute head teacher until he retired after a vocal cord operation, which he spent in Homberg.

Honors

Street names in the Frielendorf district of Leuderode , in the Haunetal district of Neukirchen and in the Homberg district of Wernswig are reminiscent of Heinrich Ruppel. A traffic circle in front of his former home has been named after him in the Homberg town center since 2008. The naming of a school was rejected by teachers and parents because of his behavior during the time of National Socialism, as Ruppel had named Adolf Hitler in a letter as the leader sent by God. Nevertheless, the city council decided on September 14, 2007 to name the traffic circle. The official renaming took place on May 29, 2008.

Works (selection)

Ruppel wrote "The Michaelis Bride of Guxhagen ". The story takes place in the Breitenau monastery during the Seven Years' War . "Helle Herzkammern" appeared in 1924.
