job

After he finished school in 1918, he began an apprenticeship as a locksmith in St. Gallen that same year , which lasted until 1921. He then worked as a chauffeur in Egypt from 1921 to 1923. Since he was interested in botany from a young age, he systematically researched the flora of the region as an autodidact . He expanded his knowledge by studying specialist literature , including those of the Slavic languages . This made him one of the most important botanists in Eastern Switzerland. From 1967 to 1972 he took part in the mapping of the Swiss flora and published the flora of the Principality of Liechtenstein in 1977 and the flora of the Canton of St. Gallen and both Appenzell in 1989 . In 1976, ETH Zurich awarded him an honorary doctorate. In 1977 he was made an honorary citizen of Sargans (decision of the local citizens' assembly).
