Heinrich Steiger

Heinrich Steiger (born May 18, 1862 in Schönau , † March 5, 1943 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ) was a German farmer and politician ( center ).

Life and work

After graduating from high school, Steiger began studying at the Hohenheim Agricultural University , which he completed with the examination to become a qualified farmer. He worked as an agriculture teacher in Hohenwestedt from 1886 and was appointed director of an agricultural school in Bassum in 1888. Since 1910 he held the title of Economics Council.

Steiger was involved in agricultural associations, was Secretary General of the Reich Association of Agricultural Cooperatives from 1894 to 1896 and Secretary General of the main agricultural association in Hanover from 1896 to 1899 . From 1899 to 1923 he was a board member of the Landesgensossenschaftsbank Hannover and in 1924 he became a member of the board of directors of the Provinzial -Landeskreditanstalt Hannover.

Political activity

Steiger was a member of the Center Party . He was a member of the Reichstag from 1924 to 1928 and a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1928 to 1933 .

On February 18, 1925, Steiger was appointed to the state government led by Prime Minister Wilhelm Marx as the Prussian Minister of State for Agriculture and remained in office in the subsequent government led by Prime Minister Otto Braun . On May 19, 1932 he resigned with the entire Ministry of State, led the current business according to. Article 59 II of the Constitution continues until March 25, 1933.
