Heinrich Wilhelm Appel (born September 27, 1850 in Schöningen , † July 29, 1923 in Hanover ) was a German merchant and manufacturer who achieved world renown at the beginning of the 20th century with the production of an improved German " mayonnaise " for the name Appel.

Life

Heinrich Wilhelm Appel was born to a pastor in Schöningen during the reign of the Kingdom of Hanover .

In the early days of the German Empire opened Appel in 1879 in Hanover, a grocery store , which he initially from 1895 to delicacies - wholesaler goal for. After Heinrich Wilhelm Appel had the Hanoverian architect Ernst Stephan build a new, brick-built office building on Engelbosteler Damm in the northern part of Hanover, for which he was awarded the facade prize for 1913 by the magistrate of the royal capital and residence , Appel began - in the middle of the First World War - in 1916 with the establishment of a company welfare scheme .
