Heinz-Alfred Steiner

Heinz-Alfred Steiner (born April 2, 1936 in Wattenscheid ) is a German officer and politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After attending school, Steiner completed an apprenticeship as a lathe operator and initially worked in this profession. In 1959, although he was born in white , he joined the German Armed Forces as a professional soldier . After his election to the German Bundestag in 1980, he was put into temporary retirement and retired as captain . From 1995 to 1996 he was chairman of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces (VdRBw). In 1998 Steiner became an honorary member of the Bundeswehr Social Welfare Service . He is currently Major in the Reserve and Honorary President of the Reserve Association.

Steiner was elected to the Iserlohn City Council in 1975 . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1980 to 1994. He was always drawn into parliament via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1990 to 1994 he was Deputy Chairman of the Defense Committee of the Bundestag . He was also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Western European Union (WEU). Here he was Vice President from 1992 to 1994.

Bribe affair

According to a report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung of 19 May 2014 Steiner together with the SPD politician Dagmar Luuk dubious consulting fees in connection with tanks - exports to Greece have received. Both are said to have received around five million euros from the arms company Krauss-Maffei Wegmann through a consulting firm called "Büro für Südosteuropaberatung" (BfS) .
