Gerd Höfer (born February 23, 1943 in Aschersleben ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

From 2005 to 2009 he was deputy chairman of the subcommittee of the defense committee of the German Bundestag for the further development of the inner leadership .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in Gevelsberg in 1964 , Höfer did military service as a reserve officer candidate until 1966 and then completed a teaching degree in sports , physics and German at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen , which he completed in 1969 with the first state examination for teaching at elementary , Completed secondary and secondary schools . After he had passed the second state examination in 1972, he worked as a teacher first at the elementary school in Schrecksbach and later at the integrated comprehensive school in Neukirchen .

From January 2010 to November 2011, Höfer was President of the Association of Reservists of the German Armed Forces . Roderich Kiesewetter followed him . Since then, Höfer has been honorary president of the association. His last rank was major in the reserve. Since March 2010 he has been a member of the advisory board for questions relating to internal guidance .

He is also a board member of the German Atlantic Society . Further memberships are GEW , DRK and AWO .

In August 2016, Höfer was awarded the Cross of Merit on Ribbon for his exceptional commitment to local politics.

Gerd Höfer has been a member of the SPD since 1968 .

Gerd Höfer has been a member of the Schwalm-Eder district council since 1973 .

From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the German Bundestag . From 2002 to 2005 he was the spokesman for the Western European Union working group of the SPD parliamentary group . He is also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the WEU. Since 2005 he has been deputy chairman of the subcommittee of the defense committee "Further Development of Inner Leadership " . As it became known in 2009, he has a seat on the Presidium of the German Army Support Group , but he had not reported this to the Bundestag.

Gerd Höfer has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Schwalm-Eder constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election , he achieved 50.1% of the first votes . Edgar Franke was his successor as a member of the Schwalm-Eder constituency .

In spring 2011, Höfer was elected First City Councilor in his hometown of Neukirchen. He is thus the mayor's deputy.
