Career

He started his career as a musician. 1968 with the band ABU el MOT who signed a record deal with Tyrolis. In 1976 the single America was released there. As a soloist, he took third place under the pseudonym Wendelin Quirrl with the song Der Bauer at the ORF composer's competition “New Songs from Austria” in 1976. He broke off his studies at the Innsbruck Conservatory that same year. In 1979 he founded the NewWave group Intimspray with the musicians Hubert Nedwed Drums, Mike Moll Keyboard, Heribert Kornfeil Guitars, and Bill Pugh Bass . With the first single More Dangerous Come Down (second hand production) the band quickly made a name for themselves in the Munich club scene ( Rigan Club, Domicile , Marienkäfer, Why Not ) and Didi Zill signed them for RCA / Autobahn . Numerous appearances on radio and television BR, ARD and ZDF followed. In 1982 the first LP Intimate Spray was Record of the Month on Bayerischer Rundfunk . Die Musikszene wrote (1982): “Your texts are mostly in a rhyme form, are funny and ironic, but also quite political, in which Heinz 'Sadat is flat, Ghaddafi stands on the edge of the desert and a red crescent moon, culture man in Tehran, Persian state greet me the oil magmat, execution squads for racial hatred ... 'sings. ". And the Süddeutsche Zeitung in the Popcorner section : “It's dance music, pogo, ska, reggae, elements that keep the bands of the new wave alive. The rhymed intimate spray lines are of course in the mother tongue, almost inevitably, as the musicians know that German lyrics will not be a passing fad in rock music. ";

After disagreements with the producers Didi Zill and Michael Holm , Heisl left the band, as a result of which it broke up in 1984. After retiring from the music business, his first literary work followed, and in 1987 he published his first volume of poetry, Das stochene Wort (Paul Renner Munich). In 1990 he received a scholarship from the Berlin Literary Colloquium . In 1994 he worked at the Chelsea Hotel in New York on the poetry book Die Psalmen (Haymon-Verlag) and ultimately spent six months there. In 2000 he received the Reinhard Priessnitz Prize . The first books in particular were in the tradition of Kurt Schwitters and Ernst Jandl (all of them published by Haymon Verlag Innsbruck under the publisher Michael Forcher ).

In 2003 he founded, among others, Magdalena Kauz, Elias Schneitter , Max Hafele, the international literature festival Sprachsalz , Tyrolean Literature Days in Hall in Tyrol , as its director he is still active. In 2006 he received the Stadtschreiber grant at the Stuttgart Writer's House . In addition to numerous readings, Heisl also appeared in two documentary films that he made together with his wife Magdalena Kauz, on the one hand the cinematic experiment Daily Press: 11 Variations of a Poem (2006), on the other hand the documentary road movie Flight Words in Air Luggage , about which the Neue Zürcher Zeitung wrote: "Flight words in air baggage is a partnership-like total work of art in which the cinematic aspect is at least equal to the literary and the musical." This shows the author's mischievous and linguistic characteristics as well as his reflective sides. In 2009 Heinz D. Heisl published the novel Greiner , in which he processed his experiences in Japan . Klaus Zeyringer about this in the Standard: "Heinz D. Heisl not only creates an original variant of the well-known topic, but also an enjoyable canon of abuse and unusual insights."

After a longer stay in San Francisco, he returned to work with music as composer and lyricist for the music project BaldWiena FolksWaisen. In addition, further book publications followed (e.g. in Hitotsubashi University Tokyo and in the USA The Two Austrians from North Beach (Siemert Press NY) together with Magdalena Kauz and Elias Schneitter ) In 2018, Limbus Verlag published the volume of poems Wir haben diebe im Haus . In this work, there was now an independent form in the selection of topics as well as the linguistic handling of poetry: “Heinz D. Heisl's numbered lyric cosmos”, as the ORF calls it: “In his new volume of poetry, Heinz D. Heisl stimulates his cryptic ones Glimpses of normal everyday life to the point where magic unfolds and the emotion behind the exaggeration becomes visible: melancholy, homesickness, wanderlust, pain. ”In his poetry as well as the lyrics for BaldWiena FolksWaisen , Heinz D. Heisl is interested in the stories behind the stories.
