Heinz Ferlesch

Heinz Ferlesch (* 1971 in the Upper Austrian area of St. Valentin ) is an Austrian choir director and conductor .

life and career

Ferlesch was born in Upper Austria , but grew up in the neighboring Lower Austrian town of St. Valentin. His talent in conducting and choral conducting was discovered as a teenager, and Reimund Tötzl gave him an apprenticeship at the age of 16. He still works with the Ad Libitum choir, which was founded in 1993 in his home parish Langenhart in St. Valentin .

Ferlesch studied at the Anton Bruckner Conservatory in Linz and with Herwig Reiter at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . In 1998 he became artistic director of the Wiener Singakademie in the Wiener Konzerthaus . He has made guest appearances with the choir in Budapest, London, New York, Venice and Zurich. In 2002 Ferlesch founded his Barucco Orchestra , an ensemble of musicians who specialize in early music . As a choir director of the Singakademie, Ferlesch worked with conductors such as Georges Prêtre , Valery Gergiev , Gustavo Dudamel , Sir Simon Rattle , Franz Welser-Möst , Kent Nagano , Fabio Luisi , Ádám Fischer , Bertrand de Billy , Ton Koopman , Helmuth Rilling and Simone Young and orchestras such as the Vienna Philharmonic , the Vienna Symphony , the RSO Vienna and the Zurich Opera Orchestra . Since 2002 he has been teaching at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

Honors

Ferlesch and his ensemble have been honored with national and international awards. He teaches at the Berkshire Choral Festivals and serves on the jury of several choir competitions. In 2010 Ferlesch was invited for a first collaboration with the Choeur de Radio France to perform Antonín Dvořák's “Stabat Mater” in Paris.
