Heinz Hoffmann (diplomat)

Heinz Hoffmann (born September 8, 1921 in Berlin ) is a former German trade unionist ( FDGB ) and diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Belgium and Luxembourg .

Life

Hoffmann attended elementary school and then the grammar school , which he completed with the Abitur . During the Second World War he did military service as a non-commissioned officer in the air intelligence service .

After 1945 Hoffmann became a member of the SED and worked as a specialist history teacher. In the 1950s he worked as a sector manager in the General Education Department of the Central Committee of the SED . From 1961 he was secretary and from 1962 to 1972 deputy chairman of the central committee of the teaching and education union in the FDGB . From 1972 to 1973 he worked as an employee in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . From May 1973 to July 1986 he was GDR ambassador to Brussels and from June 1973 to July 1986 he was second accredited as ambassador to Luxembourg.

From 1989 to 1990 Hoffmann was President of the GDR-Belgium Friendship Society .
