Heinz Krause (* 1924 ; † April 30, 2008 ) was a German puppeteer , radio play speaker , radio play author, retired police officer and pioneer of the so-called police or traffic puppet stages in Germany .

Life

After his youth as a soldier in the Second World War , wounded and taken prisoner of war, Krause went to the police in his hometown Hamburg, because after his experiences it was a personal concern of his to do his part for a more just and safer world.

Krause was a police officer the first with the establishment of a police puppet stage for prevention was entrusted to children in traffic and dealing with foreign adults. Together with a few colleagues, Krause was trained as a puppeteer by Max Jacob von Hohnsteiner Puppenspiele in the early 1950s , but soon realized that he could only take over parts of the Hohnsteiner school for his puppetry work . So he created a stage with elaborate, realistic backdrops (in contrast to the Hohnsteiners, who taught the use of monochrome curtains instead of detailed stage sets) in order to give the children as close to life as possible during play.

The Hamburg Police Puppet Theater was so successful with its performances in kindergartens and elementary schools that more playgroups soon had to be set up in order to be able to meet the enormous demand.

At the beginning of the 1970s , several successful radio plays emerged with Heinz Krause as the spokesman for Kaspers , which were released by the record label BASF. Krause also wrote the textbooks for this. The radio plays were all created under live conditions, i. H. as recordings of performances in front of an audience. ( Further records were made with the Europa label , but with a different from Krause's playgroup.)

The Hamburg police Puppenbühne found numerous imitators nationwide, including in the police stations prevent the police departments of Mainz , Bonn and Koblenz .

The Hamburg stage itself is still active. Even after his retirement from the police force, Krause continued to play puppet theater in his free time, performing in front of an older audience with his play Fiete Flunsch , a Hanseatic grotesque with three hand puppets.

Krause died on April 30, 2008 - despite his old age suddenly and unexpectedly for his family - in his Hamburg apartment.
