Heinz Scharr

Heinz Scharr (born July 1, 1924 in Sondershausen ; † September 5, 2017 in Utterode ) was a contemporary graphic artist and sculptor .

Life

Heinz Scharr was born in Sondershausen in 1924 as the third child of Otto Scharr and Martha Kramer. After attending school in Sondershausen, he completed an apprenticeship in the Sondershausen potash industry from 1939 to 1942. This was followed by military service in the Navy in 1942, after which he was taken prisoner of war in France, Spain, Holland, Belgium and England. From 1947 to 1952 Scharr studied at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art under Elisabeth Voigt , Ernst Hassebrauk , Max Schwimmer and Walter Arnold .

Since 1952 Scharr was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR , in 1955 he opened his studio in Weimar . Various projects, symposia and study trips followed in the years to come. In 1962 he built another studio in Sondershausen, later a summer studio was added in the Stillen Mühle in Helbetal and the Utterode Komturhof . After moving to Utterode in 1976, he worked there as a freelance artist.

In 1990 he joined the Federal Association of Visual Artists and the Association of Visual Artists Thuringia. After several study trips to Portugal and southern France in the 1990s and 2000s, he was awarded the honor of the city of Sondershausen in 2006 and the Order of Merit of the Free State of Thuringia in 2009.

In 1963 he married Jutta Frank.

Heinz Scharr's work comprises around 3000 works. They have been represented in exhibitions at home and abroad for decades, such as B. in the former Museum for German History in Berlin , in the Angermuseum Erfurt , in the art collections in Mühlhausen , Sondershausen and Weimar as well as at Thyssen in Duisburg . Many of his graphics are dedicated to the subject of nature , he often used iron for sculptures .
