Heinz Wagner (theologian)

Heinz Wagner (born November 28, 1912 in Olbernhau ; † April 10, 1994 in Markkleeberg ) was a German Lutheran pastor , radio preacher and professor of practical theology .

Life

Heinz Wagner studied in the years 1932-1937 Protestant Theology in Leipzig and was after his Vicariate on 21 May 1939 in Leipzig-Schönefeld as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony ordained. In 1940 Wagner became a district youth pastor until 1945 he was appointed director of the Inner Mission in Leipzig and at the same time rector of the deaconess mother house in Borsdorf near Leipzig. Wagner held both offices until 1960. Also in 1945 ordered him EKD for radio officer . Until 1983 Heinz Wagner worked as a radio preacher, which made him known throughout the GDR .

In 1946 Wagner received a teaching position at the theological faculty of the University of Leipzig for practical theology, especially catechetics , and received his doctorate in 1953 with his dissertation The Church's Youth Work after the Collapse of National Socialism as a Psychological Problem . In 1959 Wagner became a lecturer , in 1961 he took over a professorship in practical theology with a focus on homiletics , catechetics, poimenics and diakonics at the Leipzig Faculty of Theology . In 1963 he was appointed First University Preacher at the University of Leipzig; Wagner remained in this office until 1992 after his retirement. Wagner was dean of the theological faculty from 1965 to 1967 . On October 1, 1978, Wagner retired. In 1979/80 Wagner held a visiting professorship at the Diaconal Science Institute of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . In 1981 the Meißner cathedral chapter appointed him canon, in 1983 he was elected provost of the bishopric. Wagner resigned these offices in 1992 for reasons of age.

In 1971 the Theological Faculty of the University of Halle-Wittenberg awarded Wagner an honorary doctorate .

Heinz Wagner died on April 10, 1994 in Markkleeberg and was buried in Markkleeberg on April 14, 1994.
