Heister (noble family)
Heister is the name of an aristocratic family originally resident in the Duchy of Jülich , which also gained a certain reputation in Austria .
A confirmation of the imperial nobility and coat of arms, as well as the status of imperial knight, was made in 1644 for Gottfried von Heister, imperial colonel of the cavalry. The elevation to the imperial baron status as von und zu Heister und Solstett received the same in 1664 as an imperial field marshal lieutenant. His sons Sibert , imperial chamberlain and field marshal, and Hannibal Joseph, received the status of imperial count in 1692.
Another family comes from Andernach am Rhein and begins the line with Peter Heister, documented from 1607 to 1613. His descendant, Leopold Heister , lieutenant general in Hesse-Kassel, was raised to the imperial nobility in 1776 and was given a very high, presumably because of their common descent similar coat of arms awarded. His son was Levin von Heister . This Hessian family gained some reputation in the Kingdom of Prussia .
history
The ancestral seat of the family originally resident in the Duchy of Jülich was in Dalen . In 1463 Count Vinzenz von Moers confirmed the ban on mills in the parish of Dalen to Dietrich von Palant and handed over the windmill there to him. 1469 Dietrich was from Palant his servant Michael Heister, the treasurer to Dalen was, and his wife Helene, this mill to leasehold . The family line begins with Bruno Heister († 1530) Vogt zu Sittard , married to Maria von Palandt , grandson of Christophorus Heister zu Dalen, ducal Jülich and Geldrischer council ( Consiliarius Juliae et Geldriae ). Bruno's son Johann (around 1518–1584) was also Vogt of Sittard from 1555 to 1584 after the death of his brother-in-law. In the inscription of his seal he called himself Johann Heister von Dalen . The family flourished in the imperial war service temporarily in the baron and count class . Previous and later lines were untitled.
coat of arms
- The talking family coat of arms first showed an oak branch with four acorns. It was only after Johann Heister von Dalen († 1584) that his son Bruno (II) led a tree. The blazon of the full coat of arms is as follows: in silver on a green hill a green heister (regional either for oak or beech) on its trunk (or in the crown of leaves) a golden sun . On the helmet with green-silver helmet covers, the beech between an open silver flight or a golden scepter between two silver buffalo horns .
It is not known whether the sun was also recorded “talking” (it is hot ) or for any other reason. Significantly, the anatomist and botanist Lorenz Heister (1683–1758) also included the sun in his coat of arms, but in the 2nd and 3rd field and in the crest .
- The count's coat of arms is quartered with the family coat of arms as a heart shield , in 1 and 4 a red lion in a gold field , 2 and 3 in a blue field three red pennies. Two helmets, the right one shows between a golden and red eagle flight an arm that holds the penny; the left helmet shows a growing crowned red lion holding a sword.
The coat of arms of 1776 for Leopold von Heister shows a green tree (Heister) in black on a green hill, the trunk of which is covered with a golden sun. On the helmet with black and gold covers three silver ostrich feathers.
