Leopold Karl von Heister (born May 1, 1799 in Kassel , † May 4, 1878 in Naumburg (Saale) ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 5th Infantry Brigade .

Leopold Karl was a son of the electoral Hessian secret government councilor Johann Bernhard Christian von Heister (1755-1808) and his wife Wilhelmine, née Rademacher von Radehausen (1772-1824).

Life

On September 15, 1815, Heister joined the 1st Guards Regiment on foot in the Prussian Army as a grenadier and was promoted to secondary lieutenant by the beginning of April 1817 . For further training, he completed the General War School in 1827/28 and was then assigned to the Guards NCO company until 1833. On March 30, 1839 he was transferred to the 3rd Infantry Regiment with a patent from March 29, 1830 and rose to major by the end of August 1841. As such, Heister was in command of the 1st Battalion in the 1st Landwehr Regiment from mid-June 1842 to the end of March 1843. This was followed by his transfer to the General Staff of the VII Army Corps and on March 27, 1849 he was appointed Chief of the General Staff of the II Army Corps . In this position, Heister was transferred to the General Staff of the VII Army Corps on November 19, 1849 , and on December 22, 1849 as chief. He was promoted to colonel on September 22, 1851 . On June 21, 1855, he was transferred to the 5th Infantry Brigade as a commander, and on July 12, 1855, he was promoted to major general. In addition, on September 3, 1856, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. The following year he was on 24 March 1857 board for disposition made. Heister was an avid historian and wrote several books after his retirement. He died on May 4, 1878 in Naumburg (Saale).

family

Heister married Ottilie von Steuber (1818–1855), a daughter of the captain and tax councilor Wilhelm von Steuber , on May 2, 1841 in Kassel . His daughter Paula Agnes Melanie (* 1848) married Leopold von Favrat. His other daughter Clara Bianca Angelica (1842-1913) married Ernst von Tellemann-Steuber on December 8, 1842 in Naumburg.
