Leopold Wilhelm Karl August von Heister (born March 1, 1795 in Hofgeismar , † August 17, 1863 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Origin and family

He was a member of the untitulierten Hessian line of the noble family of Heister . His parents were the Prussian Lieutenant General Levin von Heister (1757–1816) and his wife Justiane Sophie, née von Westernhagen (1758–1798) from the Berlingerode family . He himself married Sophie Kaspare Marie von Schack (1814–1882) in Basse in Mecklenburg in 1836 and had two daughters with her:

  • Ina (born January 21, 1837 - † July 21, 1864)
  • Christina Ernestine Marie Bertha (* April 20, 1838 - April 30, 1871) ⚭ 1866 Ewald Gallus († October 15, 1870), Prussian major

Career

Heister began his career as an officer in 1805 as a cadet and in 1812 became portepee ensign in the Guard Regiment of the Prussian Army . In 1813 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and took part in the wars of liberation . He fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Leipzig and Paris . For his personal commitment in front of Paris he was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After the peace treaty he was promoted to prime lieutenant in 1817 , to captain and company commander in 1824 and to major and commander of the 1st battalion in the 10th Landwehr Regiment in 1837 . Heister received the Order of the Red Eagle III in 1844 . Class with a bow. In 1846 he moved to the 24th Infantry Regiment , where he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1847 . In March 1848 he was entrusted with the command of the 11th Infantry Regiment and in May of the same year he was appointed regimental commander. Heister has 1849 his promotion to colonel and in 1852 his farewell to the character as a major general, was but with only 1,857 board for disposition made.
