The light blue meadow hyacinth ( Brimeura amethystina (L.) Chouard , syn .: Hyacinthus amethystinus L. ), also called amethyst wild hyacinth , is a species of the Brimeura genus in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
features
The light blue meadow hyacinth is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 25 centimeters. This geophyte forms onions as persistent organs. The stem is smooth and has a round cross-section. The approximately three leaves arranged in a basal rosette are simple and have parallel veins.
In a more or less one-sided, racemose inflorescence (rarely three to) usually six to 18 nodding flowers are arranged. The hermaphrodite flowers are threefold. The light blue, rarely indigo or white bracts are 8 to 11 millimeters long and two thirds of them are fused. The six stamens are in two circles and sit slightly above the center of the bracts. The anthers are yellow.
Flowering time is in May, sometimes from April to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 28, less often 30.
Occurrence
The light blue meadow hyacinth occurs in northern Spain , in the Pyrenees , on Mallorca and, doubtfully, in Croatia . It inhabits rocky, dry Mediterranean to subalpine meadows and pastures at altitudes of 100 to 2200 meters.
Related species
The clan that used to be a variety of Brimeura amethystina is now viewed as an independent species:
-
Brimeura duvigneaudii (L.Llorens) Rosselló, Mus & Mayol . It is divided into two subspecies:
- Brimeura duvigneaudii subsp. duvigneaudii : It occurs in northern Mallorca.
- Brimeura duvigneaudii subsp. occultata L.Sáez, Rita, Bibiloni, Roquet & López-Alvarado : It occurs in Mallorca in the Serra de Tramuntana.
There is a third type of Brimeura in the Balearic Islands :
- Brimeura fastigiata (Viv.) Chouard (Syn .: Scilla fastigiata Viv. ): It occurs in north-eastern Mallorca, Menorca, Corsica and Sardinia.
use
The light blue meadow hyacinth is rarely used as an ornamental plant in rock gardens.
