Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing

Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing (born March 2, 1907 in Vienna ; † October 5, 1990 in Graz ) was an Austrian mechanical engineer , motorcycle racer , company founder, entrepreneur and businessman .

Life

Hellfried Richard Johann Josef Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing was born on March 2, 1907 as the younger son of Rittmeister Friedrich von Krafft-Ebing (1876–1945) and Elisabeth, née Hofmeier born. He was a grandson of the well-known German-Austrian psychiatrist and forensic doctor Richard von Krafft-Ebing . Like his older brother Herbert (1904–1997) Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing grew up in his parents' castle Gießhübl near Amstetten , attended elementary school there, taught by a private teacher, then attended grammar school in the Theresianum in Vienna in 1917 and then studied at the Technical University in Graz, specializing in mechanical engineering.

Even in his high school days, Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing was enthusiastic about sports and achieved top placements in the athletics disciplines of discus throwing and the shot put . In the 1920s and 1930s, as a member of the Styrian Automobile Club, Krafft-Ebing participated in numerous motorcycle races and valuation drives in Austria, mainly in Styria . In the races he drove a Calthorpe brand motorcycle (type: Calthorpe Ivory 350 cm³, later 500 cm³) made by the British manufacturer Calthorpe Motor Co Limited from Birmingham , and occasionally a BMW brand motorcycle (300 cm³). Often times, Krafft-Ebing emerged as the winner or as the second or third place in these motorcycle racing competitions and thus achieved a high level of awareness in Austrian motorcycle racing history. In 1935 he was director of the Gymkhanaspiele  - a skill tournament for motorcycles - in Stainz, Styria . In 1936 he was race director at the motorcycle slalom in Geistthal .

In 1937, Krafft-Ebing, mechanical engineer, together with his childhood friend and student colleague Wolfgang Denzel (1908–1990), who later became the general importer for Austria, initially in Graz, the commercial agency for BMW AG for Styria and Carinthia . At the same time, Krafft-Ebing also represented the US refrigerator manufacturer Frigidaire .

After the Second World War , Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing, specializing in refrigeration and heating technology, built the “Österreichische Kühlanlagenbaugesellschaft” and the company “Fa. Hellfried Krafft-Ebing, Heating Technology ”and the representation of the oil burner division of the Garvens company based in Graz.

Hellfried von Krafft-Ebing was married to Edeltrud, b. Albrecher (1909–2000) and father of two daughters, Ingrid (* 1940) and Alice (* 1946). Hellfried Freiherr von Krafft-Ebing died on October 5, 1990 in Graz and was buried in the family crypt at the Graz- St. Leonhard cemetery.
