Helmut Klein (pedagogue)

Helmut Klein (born March 2, 1930 in Berlin-Lichterfelde ; † June 26, 2004 in Berlin ) was a German educator . The professor of didactics was rector of the Humboldt University of Berlin for four consecutive terms from 1976 to 1988 .

Life

The worker's son Helmut Klein attended elementary school, learned to be a radio mechanic after the war and in the spring of 1947 received his university entrance qualification at the preparatory college in what was then the eastern zone . From mid-1947 he studied mathematics, physics and education at the university in East Berlin . From 1948 he tried his hand at the adult education center as a teacher. Helmut Klein passed the state examination in 1950 and earned his doctorate two years later with a thesis on methodical approaches in mathematics lessons. paed. As a senior assistant he continued to deal with the methodology in the classroom and taught systematic pedagogy from 1956 . In 1959 , Helmut Klein completed his habilitation with a thesis on didactics, titled with studies on general principles and rules of education in the teaching of the general schools of the German Democratic Republic as well as their representation in a general theory of teaching , for Dr. paed. habil.

From 1961 Helmut Klein worked at the Humboldt University as a professor with a teaching assignment and from 1969 as a full professor for didactics. In 1969 he joined the SED . In 1970 he became a full member of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences . From 1980 Helmut Klein researched in the field of gifted education . He sat in the People's Chamber from 1976 to 1990 . In 1989/90 he was President of the Association of Freethinkers of the GDR. In 1992 Helmut Klein retired.
