Life

At the end of the Second World War, Helmut Rieger came to Bad Reichenhall with his family , where he spent his childhood and trained as a printer. From 1953 to 1956 he attended the master school for book printers, graphic design department in Munich. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was a master student at Erich Glette .

At the end of the 1950s, Rieger belonged to a group of Munich art students who tried to refuse the Munich Academy's style guidelines. In the groups we , trace / we and mesh , Rieger wrote manifestos in which painting and drawing should be understood as an art of expression. At the end of the 1960s, Rieger withdrew from the group. In the 1970s, an illness caused Rieger to turn to drawing and sculpture. In the early 1990s he fell seriously ill again, and life's borderline experiences were reflected in his work.

Since 1997 Rieger has been a full member of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts .
