Helmut Schieber

Helmut Schieber (born June 25, 1938 in Leutkirch ; † September 29, 2011 in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe ) was a German bank manager.

Life

Helmut Schieber, son of a Protestant pastor's family, studied law at the Albert Ludwigs University of Freiburg after completing an apprenticeship in a bank . In 1972 he joined the state central bank in Baden-Württemberg. He was initially the personal advisor to President Otto Pfleiderer. After holding various positions, he was appointed Vice President in 1985. In 1992 he moved to the Deutsche Bundesbank in Frankfurt am Main as a member of the board of directors and head of the foreign and international currencies departments . He was instrumental in the introduction of the euro . In June 2000 he became President of the Landeszentralbank in Baden-Württemberg (LZB) in Stuttgart , with conversion on May 1, 2002, head of the Stuttgart headquarters of the Deutsche Bundesbank. He retired on June 30, 2002. For his work he was honored with the First Class Cross of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany .

Since 1964 he was with Christa, geb. Walther-Burose, married; the marriage has two children. One of the ancestors is the writer Anna Schieber . He has played in the old-time jazz, Dixieland, swing and blues band "Echoes of Jazz" since 1969.

Since 1993 he has been committed to Salzburg Seminar and was its board member. In Germany he headed the Friends of the Salzburg Seminar.
