Helmut Vogl

Helmut Vogl (* 1944 in Gnigl ) is an Austrian caricaturist , actor and editor .

life and work

Born and raised in Salzburg- Gnigl , he studied natural history and physics in Innsbruck . He was a secondary school teacher in Vienna from 1969 to 1970 and started drawing. First publications in pardon , Süddeutsche Zeitung , Weltwoche and others followed political cartoons for magazines such as Die Furche profil , Salzburger Nachrichten and the Wiener Zeitung . Over the years he has worked for almost all well-known German-language magazines.

In 1975 he worked on cartoons in Munich and Cologne, a. a. Hanna-Barbera , Addams Family , Sir John the ghost detective , and a year as a draftsman at Wickie -Comic. In addition, he worked repeatedly as a landlord, book seller, gardener, unskilled laborer, carpenter and in other various professions to maintain his existence.

In 1982 he founded the Austrian satirical magazine Watzmann (Magazin) , with which he discovered Gerhard Haderer , among others , who repeatedly illustrated covers. For financial reasons, he handed the magazine over to Helmut Hütterer in 1984.

In 1985 he is the main actor in Wolfram Paulus Film Heidenlöcher (film) .

In the 1990s he also attracted international attention with his calendar pictures Celebrity Orgasms , published by Eichborn Verlag , with caricatures of famous personalities at the moment of orgasm.

Lived in a houseboat in France for three years, ran the Gasthaus Vogl & Co in Salzburg Aigen from 2003 to 2005 . He has been retired for a few years, but has not put his pencil down and only recently drew the title page for Rappelkopf .
