Helmuth Schreiner

Helmuth Moritz Schreiner (born March 2, 1893 in Dillenburg , † April 28, 1962 in Münster ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian.

Life

Schreiner studied theology and philosophy in Halle , Berlin and Bonn (interrupted by military service and imprisonment). Martin Kähler made the greatest impression on him from his teachers . He became active in the Halle Wingolf , where Carl Gunther Schweitzer was his personal boy . After completing his studies, he became head of the Hamburg city mission in 1921 . In the same year he did his doctorate in philosophy with Paul Hensel in Erlangen . In 1926 he became head of the Johannesstift in Berlin-Spandau . In 1928 he received his doctorate in theology from Friedrich Brunstäd in Rostock . In March 1932 he received an honorary theological doctorate from Berlin University.

As a professor of practical theology at the University of Rostock (from 1931) he was one of the founders of the Young Reformation movement . Suspended in September 1933, he was removed from office in 1937 and went to Münster as head of a deaconess mother house . Here he was appointed acting dean in 1945 and professor for practical theology at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in 1946 and was one of the main forces in the reconstruction of the Protestant theological faculty until his retirement in 1957 .

Until 1929 Helmuth Schreiner was a member of the German National People's Party .
