Helmuth Volmer

Helmuth Volmer (born April 18, 1909 in Mannheim , † after 1961) was a German film production manager .

The son of a commercial director attended Realgymnasium and Oberrealschule and then underwent commercial training at the Albatros (Berlin) and Junkers (Dessau) companies in the mid / late 1920s. Volmer joined the film industry in 1930 as a production assistant at Tobis, after which he worked as a dispatcher for the film companies Efa, Jofa and Lignose. In 1936 Helmuth Volmer was promoted to technical director of the Tobis-Kopierwerk in Berlin-Köpenick. In 1942, while filming the first Tobis color film Das Bad auf der Tenne , where Volmer was employed as a production assistant, he met Rolf Meyer , who worked there as a screenwriter and who was to have some significance for Volmer's career after the war. After the post of film director, the native of Mannheim was drafted in 1944 and was taken prisoner in 1945.

Back in civilian life, Volmer returned to the film industry and was hired as production manager by Meyer's Hamburg production company Junge Film-Union (JFU) in 1947 - starting with the rubble film “ Menschen in Gottes Hand ”. Volmer stayed with the JFU until 1950, from 1950 he also practiced this profession at various other film companies and landed a tangible scandal right from the start with Willi Forst's production The Sinner due to a ridiculous nude appearance by Hildegard Knef . In his later years, from 1954 to 1960, Volmer worked exclusively for Gero Wecker's Arca film production. The first Immenhof film, the highly speculative Nackedei- and Urwaldschnulze Liane, the girl from the jungle , Veit Harlan's controversial discussion of homosexuality , Unlike the Others , and the restorative worship of war heroes U 47 - Kapitänleutnant Prien , also fall during this time . All of these films strongly reflect the culturally conservative atmosphere of the Adenauer era.

In 1960 Volmer, who owned residences in Sigishofen im Allgäu and Berlin-Charlottenburg, ended his production activities. What he did afterwards is as little known as the date of his death. The industry handbook film-fernseh-ABC 1975/1976 no longer shows his name in the register.
