Helsingborg (Helsingborgs stad) is one of the 14 municipalities in Sweden that use the term stad (city) instead of commun for their entire municipality.

history

When the municipal constitution came into force in 1863, today's municipal area around the city of Helsingborg was divided into 15 parishes (socknar) . In the course of several reforms, the parishes were merged more and more. After all, today's municipality was created in 1971 from the merger of the city of Hälsingborg with four rural municipalities. The original spelling Helsingborg was reintroduced after it was changed to Hälsingborg in 1912 .
