Hengstin is a song by the German rock band Jennifer Rostock . It was released as part of the album release of Exactly In That Tone on September 9, 2016.

Musical & content

Stallion was written by Jennifer Weist , Jennifer Bender , Joe Walter, Alex Knolle and Riffsn and produced by Jennifer Rostock and Jay Maas. In contrast to the songs by Jennifer Rostock, which otherwise tend to be classified as rock music , Hengstin is referred to as hip-hop and trap and parts of the song as pop and EDM . The beat was designed with a Roland TR-808 .

The lyrics to Hengstin are divided into verses and choruses . While the former are presented entirely in rap form , the chorus is divided into vocals and rap. In terms of content, the song is described as a feminist plea . With this, the band wants to stand up for women's rights. In a message on Facebook , front woman Jennifer Weist stated that the message behind the song was that women "still have fewer career opportunities, earn less than men in the same jobs and struggle with more blatant prejudices." It is therefore important to be “self-confident and independent, not to run after a stallion, but to be a stallion yourself”.

Pull yourself off the belt, it's never too late
Because a path only arises when you walk it
I'm not a herd animal, just because I'm not a stallion,
I'm a , I'm a stallion

Refrain, original excerpt

Music video

The music video for Stallion was produced by Justin Izumi and released on October 28, 2016. The video shows different shots of Weist: she raps the first part alone in a room, further shots show her with different dancers. Another shot shows Weist sitting completely naked in a hall, where her intimate area is only covered by her arms. In between, the video shows footage of other women who also play in the video, including Britta Steffen , Melbeatz , Vanessa Low and Visa Vie . With YouTube the video more than 7.7 million views has (as of April 2019).

Reactions

In particular, Weist's nude scenes in the music video in connection with the feminist text of the song caused media coverage. The Juice magazine compares the rape of Assigns with Iggy Azalea and SXTN and rated Hengstin positive: "Even far from the own music milieu forces the charismatic bandleader with a lot of swagger, and even more bare skin the listener's attention and shoots the message deep into the Ear canal ". 3sat rated the nude scenes in the video critically with regard to the message of the song and asks: "Can you really stand stark naked against sexism?" Paula Irmschler from Laut.de rated Hengstin positively in the context of the album review on exactly this tone and wrote: "In radio pop is still looking for such a good statement with a magnifying glass, because no one wants to mess up the bad party." Michael Rubach of Plattentests.de criticized the beat of the song "like the Resterampe of his opinion Orsons sounds" and the content. There were numerous critical comments and some insults on YouTube.

In response to Hengstin , the rapper bass Sultan Hengzt released the song Stute, based on the same beat .
